Writing & Saving

My writing is missing

If a chapter or draft looks missing, do not clear your browser or app data, uninstall the app, or delete the book while you are troubleshooting. OurSpace keeps a local copy of writing on the device and can queue changes that have not reached the cloud yet. Clearing local storage can remove the copy you are trying to recover.

Start on the device where you last wrote

  1. Open OurSpace on the same phone, computer, browser profile, or installed PWA you used during your last writing session.
  2. Sign in to the same OurSpace account if you are not already signed in.
  3. Open the affected book and chapter.
  4. Check the sync status at the top of the app.
    • Offline means OurSpace cannot reach the server yet.
    • N pending means there are local changes waiting to sync.
    • Syncing N changes… means queued changes are being sent.
  5. If you are offline, reconnect to a stable internet connection and keep OurSpace open until the pending count disappears and the sync indicator clears.
  6. Reopen the book and chapter after syncing completes.
Important: If the missing text was written offline or shortly before a connection problem, the newest copy may exist only on the device where you wrote it. Do not switch to cleanup steps such as clearing site data until recovery is complete.

Check Version History

If the chapter opens but an earlier version of the text is missing:

  1. Open the chapter.
  2. Open the chapter menu.
  3. Choose Version history.
  4. Review the saved versions by date, time, and word count.
  5. Select Restore on the version you want to recover.

Version History contains restore points created when you use Save. OurSpace keeps up to 20 saved versions for a chapter. Autosaved changes and Version History are related but are not the same thing: background autosave protects current work, while tapping Save creates a restore point you can return to later.

If you recently changed devices

A different device can only show writing that has already reached the cloud. If your newest work is missing on your second device:

  1. Return to the original device.
  2. Open OurSpace and reconnect it to the internet.
  3. Wait for any pending changes to finish syncing.
  4. Then reopen OurSpace on the second device.

Avoid continuing to edit the same chapter on multiple devices while one of them still shows pending changes. Let the first device finish syncing before you resume elsewhere.

If a chapter suddenly became much shorter

OurSpace includes recovery safeguards for suspicious large drops in chapter content. If a save would replace a substantial chapter with an unexpectedly tiny version, the app can preserve a recovery copy instead of silently accepting the loss.

If the chapter still looks wrong after syncing and checking Version History, stop editing that chapter and contact support. Include:

  • your OurSpace username;
  • the book title and chapter title;
  • the approximate date and time you last saw the missing text;
  • the device and browser/app you used;
  • whether you were offline or saw a pending sync count;
  • an approximate word count of the missing version.

Do not send your password or OTP code. If you still have the original device, keep its OurSpace data intact until support confirms that recovery is complete.
