Writing & Saving

Offline writing

OurSpace is designed to keep the writing workspace usable when your connection drops. Story changes can be stored locally on the device and queued for cloud sync when you reconnect.

Write while offline

  1. Open the story you want to work on while you still have access to it on the device.
  2. Continue editing normally.
  3. Watch for the Offline indicator. If local changes are waiting, the app can also show a pending count.
  4. Keep using the same device until you can reconnect.

Your offline work is tied to local app/browser storage on that device. Another device will not see those changes until the original device successfully syncs them.

Sync after reconnecting

  1. Connect the device to a stable network.
  2. Open OurSpace on the same device where you wrote offline.
  3. Leave the app open while it changes from Offline to Syncing N changes….
  4. Wait until the pending count disappears.
  5. Open the story again and confirm your latest text is present.
  6. If you plan to continue on another device, open that second device only after the first one has finished syncing.

The sync engine also checks queued work when the app starts and when the device comes back online.

Protect offline drafts

While offline work is still pending, do not clear site data, clear app storage, uninstall the app/PWA, or reset the browser profile. Those actions may remove the local copy before it reaches your account.

If you know you will be offline for a long time, it is also a good idea to create deliberate Save checkpoints when the feature is available, then confirm everything syncs when you reconnect.

If offline work does not appear after reconnecting

Stay on the original device and:

  1. Check whether a pending count is still visible.
  2. Keep OurSpace open for a few minutes on a stable connection.
  3. Close and reopen the app without clearing its data.
  4. Check the affected chapter and its Version History.

If the writing is still missing, contact support before performing destructive troubleshooting. Include the story/chapter title, device, browser/app, approximate edit time, and whether the app showed Offline or a pending count.
