Android app & PWA issues
OurSpace can be used from the web and as an installable Progressive Web App (PWA). Android users may also be using a Google Play build during testing/release periods. The troubleshooting path depends on which one you opened.
Identify what you are using
- PWA: installed from the browser and opens in a standalone app-like window.
- Android app: installed through Google Play or a testing link.
- Website: opened directly in a browser tab.
If the app will not open or shows an old screen
- Confirm the phone has an internet connection.
- Fully close OurSpace and reopen it.
- If you use the PWA, reopen it and allow the automatic web-app update to load.
- If you use the Google Play build, check Google Play for an available update.
- Open the web version in your normal browser to determine whether the issue is specific to the installed app.
If the Android app works but the PWA does not—or vice versa
Report which installation type is affected. The distinction matters because the installed PWA uses browser-managed storage and caching, while an Android package can have its own app lifecycle and update path.
Protect unsynced writing before reinstalling
Do not uninstall the app, remove the PWA, or clear app/browser storage while you have offline or pending writing. First:
- open OurSpace on the affected device;
- reconnect to the internet;
- wait until the pending sync count clears;
- verify important chapters are present;
- then consider reinstalling only if the technical problem remains.
What to include in a report
Send the phone model, Android version, whether you use Play app/PWA/website, app or browser version if known, exact steps, expected result, actual result, screenshot/error text, and whether the problem affects writing or only the interface.
